What is psychotherapy?

There are many different modalities and approaches under the psychotherapy umbrella. Tony’s approach places an emphasis on the therapeutic relationship with the understanding that healing happens when we feel safe, witnessed and understood.

He works with a number of different techniques and theories to support you to connect with yourself and find the understanding and wisdom within you.

Somatic (body-based) therapy and arts-based inquiry are types of psychotherapy that integrate your cognitive and conscious information with your felt-sense and subconscious information and brings forward insight and meaning by combining both. You are supported to build your awareness of what is happening in your body, your mind, and beyond to develop a better relationship with yourself and others.

Our bodies store memories and trauma, including past experiences of feeling unsafe and safe, of feeling disassociated and present. Some of our stored experiences from when we’ve felt unsafe or disassociated can manifest as anxiety, tension and illness. We also may have developed responses or adaptations that served us at the time but are no longer helpful.

Psychotherapy uses evidence-based therapeutic methods that have been proven to be effective in helping people overcome a range of mental health challenges, support better well-being and invite self-discovery.

Other approaches you may experience in psychotherapy include Internal Family Systems (parts work), emotionally focused therapy, Jungian theory, psychodynamics and relational therapy.

What is therapy for?

We all want to enjoy life to it’s fullest, experiencing physical and mental well-being, and gentleness, ease and joy. But life has its challenges and can be complicated, and that’s where focused and comprehensive support for individuals and couples and their specific needs can help. Some people seek therapy for a certain issue, event or situation, while others seek therapy for general well-being and self-understanding.

Therapy gives you the time and space to look at aspects of your life that need attention, including relationships, careers, family, health and trauma, fostering ways to nurture, grow, and expand with increased clarity and purpose.

Whether addressing early childhood trauma, managing major life situations and transitions, or reevaluating habits and beliefs, personalised therapeutic support can empower you to feel more in control and at ease with yourself.

Therapy is valuable for those interested in self-discovery, developing interpersonal skills, enhancing communication, connection, navigating change, exploring creativity, identity, gender, or sexuality. It provides support for those feeling stuck or confronting significant challenges such as grief, loss, anxiety, depression, or trauma.
